It Happens Too Often

This is to anonymous and Dana - unfortunately it is the rare person who responds positively to direct neighborhood complaints. As Block Watch Coordinator, I have heard the unpleasant results of such ''communication'' all to often.

But to Dana and all who have issues, I encourage you to involve the police. We have a community relations officer and, for that matter, any officer would approach a resident who is not acting responsibly. Our police are very polite and professional in their approach.

Each neighbor can make the choice, but frankly, I have found it rare for a person to respond favorably to criticism. In fact, I know of one man who, when reported for his lawbreaking, demanded to know ''who reported him'' and now wants to ''get'' them.

You decide.

I agree

Dana,

I feel that I would have to agree with Pam on this one. Although it may have just been a simple lapse in judgement(someone leaving a door open or a fence unlocked), more times than not, it is just the product of someone not caring enough to make sure their pet is not secured. I not only feel that this is a lack of respect for the neighbors who live around them, but for the pets themselves. This may be my own loose reasoning, but I would suspect if they don't have enough respect for you as a neighbor to secure their pet and not let the pet run loose in your yard, I hardly doubt they will have enough respect for you to POLITELY listen when you go over to complain. At best they will probably dismiss you and at worst, they could do some real personal harm. Better to get an animal control officer or a patrol officer from Blendon or Franklin County. They are better trained in handling these situations in a delicate, tactful and professional matter. They are also better prepared to handle someone if they happen to get belligerent. Normally, I feel that open communication with the neighbor in question is the best policy, but in this case, I don't think its the best solution.
