What? No Recycling program?

Posted in: Huber Ridge Area

The environment is a hot topic in today's society.  After visiting an actual rainforest reserve last fall, I have been more adamant about being environmentally conscious.  In our house, we recycle as much reusable aluminum, plastic, paper, and glass as possible.  Unfortunately, I have to load up my car with our recyclables and cart them over to Home Depot off Cleveland Ave.

When we initially started recycling, I called all the recycling pick-up companies and none of them had Huber Ridge on their pick-up routes.  At first I thought it was our location in the neighborhood, but then I noticed no one in the neighborhood has recycling bins.  Do we not have a neighborhood recycling program?

I do not mind taking the recyclables, but if I do not get a chance to get over there once a week, the bags start to pile up.  If its for the enviroment, I am fully willing to pay extra money a month to help reduce the amount of waste we throw out per week.  Does anyone else feel this way?Yell

**Between two people, we used to throw away three to four garbage cans of trash per week.  Since we started recycling, we only have to use our large trash can and often it is not even 3/4 of the way full.**Laughing

Hi Neighbor,

We do not have curb recycling due to the expense.  But we do have recycling bins at the Blendon Township Senior Center on Hempstead Road - closer than Home Depot.  Plus the money benefits the senior center.  The bins are located behind the center, close to the cemetery.  There is, however, no container for glass - just plastic, newspapers, cardboard, and aluminum.

Recently, the trustees asked our service director to check into curb recycling again because prior quotes proved to be cost prohibitive.  I do not know what he found out.

Hope this helps,

Pam Clegg
